GCCN serves as an advocate in the legislative and regulatory arenas, having worked to initially pass and later improve legislation that established the Georgia Volunteers in Medicine Act, a program that provides sovereign immunity to clinics and their volunteers. GCCN also worked to acquire CME and CE credits for the volunteer hours provided to a clinic by physicians, dentists and dental hygienists.
In 2015 GCCN advocated for and was successful in acquiring a $500,000 FY2016 state appropriation for the clinics’ capacity building and expansion of services, as well as the reinstatement of the state sales tax exemption for clinics.
